Taylor Jenkins Reid…I Mean Carrie Soto Is Back

Reid does it again!

I’ve not been this hooked to my Kindle nor read a book in a single day in a while. I don’t even care for tennis…at all. But I think I learnt a bit about it? I appreciate the explanation of the rules of the game, the championships etc. The hum of the win, the thrill of breaking another record are Carrie’s constant companions. The very definition of someone going above and beyond. But this comes at a cost….no friends, she’s called a cold b***h, etc. Her father is her coach and anchor in life, their relationship is quite something.

Reid has again brought her main character to life, I almost want to Google Carrie Soto and found out what’s happened after the 1996 championships. Definitely a memorable character which is not surprising considering Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones have both been written by Reid. Loved the little nod to the Rivas and the gossip magazines. Whoever has read Malibu Rising will understand what I mean.

A story about family, perseverance to potentially unhealthy extent, about loving something so much you’re willing to give up on many other things as long as you have that one thing…also tennis.

I wish this was longer. A very strong 4 star rating from me!
