Books That Provide an Escape and Finally Fall Book Tag

Today’s topic is Books That Provide a Much-Needed Escape. And when I hear escape I immediately think fantasy so here are some of my favorites in the genre:

  1. Sabriel by Garth Nix
  2. The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie
  3. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
  4. The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
  5. Malice by John Gwynne
  6. The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
  7. The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman
  8. The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
  9. Jade City by Fonda Lee
  10. Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang

I’m pairing this with the Finally Fall Book Tag.

1. In fall, the air is crisp and clear: name a book with a vivid setting

Bookshops and Bonedust by Travis Baldree.

2. Nature is beautiful… but also dying: name a book that is beautifully written, but also deals with a heavy topic like loss or grief

Grief Is the Thing with Feathers: A Novel by Max Porter.

3. Fall is back to school season: share a non-fiction book that taught you something new

Why We Eat (Too Much): The New Science of Appetite by Andrew Jenkinson.

4.  In order to keep warm, it’s good to spend some time with the people we love: name a fictional family/household/friend-group that you’d like to be a part of

I’d like to hang out with the elves in Rivendell (in times of peace in Middle Earth of course!).

5. The colorful leaves are piling up on the ground: show us a pile of fall-colored spines

Pardon the look of a photo, I’ll name the books instead:

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson.

6. Fall is the perfect time for some storytelling by the fireside: share a book wherein somebody is telling a story

If reading a story counts: Tilly and the Book Wanderers by Anna James.

7. The nights are getting darker: share a dark, creepy read

I’m not a fan of dark and creepy reads but Coraline by Neil Gaiman comes to mind.

8. The days are getting colder: name a short, heartwarming read that could warm up somebody’s cold and rainy day

The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett.

9. Fall returns every year: name an old favorite that you’d like to return to soon.

Heidi by Johanna Spyri (my all time favorite I’d like to reread).

10. Fall is the perfect time for cozy reading nights: share your favorite cozy reading “accessories”

A hot drink, cozy blanket and rain outside make for the perfect fall reading atmosphere.
