Today’s topic is Debut Novels I Enjoyed. I do not read that many or else I don’t pay attention to whether it’s a debut book or not, so for this week, I dug through the TTT archives and found a topic I’ve not done yet: The 10 Best Books I Read in the Last 10 Years (2013 to 2023).

- 2017 – And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini;
- 2016 – The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett;
- 2015 – All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr;
- 2014 – The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien.

I only read your 2017 book but that was my least favorite by this author LOL. I just looked it up and I also read it in 2017.

It’s probably not my all time favorite of his either (that’d be The Kite Runner) but it did stand out in 2017. Thanks for visiting Laurie.

I wish so much I could have seen your post before writing my own…. this is such a great idea! Debuts were difficult for me, so I had to spend a lot of time Googling to figure out which were the first books by authors I enjoyed! I loved Hamnet, despite initial misgivings. The writing won me over even though I wasn’t that interested in the topic! I just finished two more of O’Farrell’s books – Instructions for a Heatwave and I Am, I Am, I Am – both of which I also really enjoyed. She’s becoming a favourite author for her ability to write the hell out of any topic!

I’m terrible at picking a shortlist of favourites, so this topic would immediately send me spiralling into overthinking mode! 😂 I loved quite a few of the ones you mentioned though. Hosseini, Follett, Doerr are some favourites of mine too and I can’t wait to read a Backman book this year (hopefully, lol). Great list!

I love your spin on the topic! I haven’t read a lot of these books yet, but I really loved A Gentleman in Moscow and The Pillars of the Earth. I remember being surprised at how much I enjoyed a book about building a cathedral lol.
