We Solve Murders by Richard Osman

I’ve read a Richard Osman book on every summer vacation for the last few years and I think I will keep doing that going forward. I laughed out loud several times including at the beach, driving to the beach, while my baby napped, that my husband repeatedly asked what I was reading and I read a few paragraphs out loud. He didn’t find it quite as funny, but reading tastes are very different anyway.
We Solve Murders has some similarities to The Thursday Murder Club. Mainly the humor, the elderly detective and the suspense. If pressed to pick my favorite, I’d probably say We Solve Murders because it’s the one I’ve read most recently.
We Solve Murders has multiple POVs and some interesting relationship dynamics. Some pairings seem unusual yet just right, some hard to believe. The character of the author Rosie was by far my favorite, with Steve being a close second.
The role of Chat GPT in the book is very current and brilliantly done. No, the book was not written with its assistance. You’ll have to read the book to find out how it’s included.
Some interesting thoughts about life, marriage, layers of protection, or, shall I say insurance are included. All themes Osman has explored before, but there’s a fresh perspective here. And you will recognize the repetitive themes only if you’ve already read his other works.
Overall, I’m very happy to have read this and that I liked it. My other picks on vacation were not quite the best. I recommend it to anyone that has already read another book by Osman, or, anyone looking for their next suspense read.
Here’s to hoping Osman publishes another book before our next vacation.
