Books That Made Me Laugh Out Loud

A shorter list this week as I’m struggling to think of more such book.

The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13 3/4 by Sue Townsend – this was a reading project for uni and I recall my presentation on Adrian’s intellectual development was declared the best in my group, I even watched the TV adaptation and included video clips to prove each point I tried to make. I had a lot of fun with the project and laughed out loud on multiple occasions. I’m yet to read the remaining books though.

Seriously… I’m Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres – likely the funniest non-fiction I’ve ever read. The audiobook is narrated by Ellen herself and I do recommend you listen to it if you have the chance. I know there’s been some controversies around her show last year, but her advice on becoming a billionaire is: write a book about magical vampire teenage hobbits, then turn it into a movie franchise. My Goodreads review reads: hilarious! That’s it, that’s my review haha 😀

The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson – I don’t ever recall laughing out loud to any other book more than this one! That laughter when you can’t say a word, there’s tears in your eyes and you almost forget to breathe kind of laughter – that’s this book. Admittedly, the sequel was disappointing but this first book was still a great read.

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion – the characters we equal parts frustrating and funny here to be honest, but I did laugh for sure at multiple scenes. I’ll take the story with a grain of salt and remember it’s meant to be a fun romance read.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams – I don’t quite like this book and I’ve now read it multiple times…still not sure what to make of it. But, it’s a fun read for sure!

What are the funniest books you have read?

I also struggled with what to come up with! In the end I listed 5 books that made me laugh and 5 books on my TBR I hope make me laugh. I haven’t read any on this list, though I might add The Hundred year old man to my TBR after that glowing review!

My go to authors for humourous books are usually Rick Riordan or Derek Landy, their books never fail to make me laugh.
