What is a Book Ninja? A Book Review of The Book Ninja by Ali Berg and Michelle Kalus

The Book Ninja was an interesting cover and title I stumbled upon on the Everand app (formerly known as Scribd) while looking for my next read.

I’m so happy I landed on this one. All the bookish references made my little bookworm heart flutter.

This is the story of book lover Frankie and how book boyfriends lead to unrealistic real life situations with a date or partner. It was interesting to see Frankie adapt and flourish.

Here’s a list of things I liked and didn’t quite like about this story:

I liked that

  • it’s set in Australia (not a popular setting in the books I tend to read)
  • has lots of book recommendations
  • a lot of it is set in a bookstore
  • the book genre guessing game between Frankie and her colleague and friend based on the customer’s look (I wouldn’t usually like this but it was fun to know whether they got it right or not)
  • the complicated relationships
  • so many trains and places mentioned in Melbourne (if I do ever visit, I might know a place or two)
  • the fact it’s written by an author duo and I couldn’t tell who wrote what

I didn’t quite like

  • the disdain towards the bookstore customers that read YA
  • the awkward dates
  • how Frankie and Sunny apparently got their names
  • the cheating scenario.

If you’re looking for a quick and overall good romance read, I highly recommend this one. I would definitely read more books by this author duo.

Have you read this one or added to your TBR? Let me know in the comments.
