Today’s topic is Debut Novels I Enjoyed. I do not read that many or else I don’t pay attention to whether it’s a debut book or not, so for this week, I dug through the TTT archives and found a topic I’ve not done yet: The 10 Best Books I Read in the Last 10 Years (2013 to 2023).

  1. 2023 – Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven;
  2. 2022 – Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell;
  3. 2021 – Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro;
  4. 2020 – A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles;
  5. 2019 – Beartown by Fredrik Backman;
  6. 2018 – What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami;
  7. 2017 – And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini;
  8. 2016 – The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett;
  9. 2015 – All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr;
  10. 2014 – The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Have you read any of these? Which one was your favorite? Leave your TTT in the comments.

    I only read your 2017 book but that was my least favorite by this author LOL. I just looked it up and I also read it in 2017.

      It’s probably not my all time favorite of his either (that’d be The Kite Runner) but it did stand out in 2017. Thanks for visiting Laurie.

  2. I have The Hobbit on my list as well. 🙂

  3. I’ve read a bunch of these! Number 8, 9, and 10 are some of my all-time favorite books.

    I usually don’t pay attention to whether or not a novel is a debut either. The Hobbit is wonderful! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  5. I’ve only read Beartown and A Gentlemen in Moscow but both were great.

  6. Two of these were DNFs for me. It just goes to show that not every book is for every person.

  7. I wish so much I could have seen your post before writing my own…. this is such a great idea! Debuts were difficult for me, so I had to spend a lot of time Googling to figure out which were the first books by authors I enjoyed! I loved Hamnet, despite initial misgivings. The writing won me over even though I wasn’t that interested in the topic! I just finished two more of O’Farrell’s books – Instructions for a Heatwave and I Am, I Am, I Am – both of which I also really enjoyed. She’s becoming a favourite author for her ability to write the hell out of any topic!

      I loved I Am, I Am, I Am as well and I definitely want to read her other books as well. Many thanks for visiting.

  8. They won’t let me post this because I apparently have already said that.

    Let’s see whether this works now.

    I’ve read # 4,7,8, and 9 and they were all fantastic. Hamnet is on my TBR list, should be good, as well.

  9. I’m terrible at picking a shortlist of favourites, so this topic would immediately send me spiralling into overthinking mode! 😂 I loved quite a few of the ones you mentioned though. Hosseini, Follett, Doerr are some favourites of mine too and I can’t wait to read a Backman book this year (hopefully, lol). Great list!

      I get that, luckily I mark all my yearly favorites on a Goodreads shelf so I could easily reference that. Hope you enjoy Backman. Thanks for visiting Dini!

  10. Great list! I love Fredrik Backman! Happy Wednesday!

  11. I love your spin on the topic! I haven’t read a lot of these books yet, but I really loved A Gentleman in Moscow and The Pillars of the Earth. I remember being surprised at how much I enjoyed a book about building a cathedral lol.
