The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez

The second book in The Friend Zone series by Abby Jimenez was slightly better that book 1 (and that one wasn’t very good either). Let’s unpack this statement.

What I like about this book:

  1. The characters are moderately interesting: one a singer, the other a painter. One battling grief, the other their newly found fame;
  2. Very supportive friends on one side, very supportive family on the other;
  3. A glimpse into fame impacting a relationship you’re cheering on for;
  4. A super cute dog.

What I didn’t like:

  1. Weapons, hunting and eating game (which bothered me in book 1 as well);
  2. The romance developed way too quickly;
  3. It just seems like every other Abby Jimenez novel and I’ve read them all this summer;
  4. The writing style is what you’d expect from a contemporary romance writer I suppose.

I may be slightly unfair as I’m in the mood to read lighter reads at the moment yet rating them low. The reason I’m rating them low is they’re not particularly memorable other than Part of Your World (book 1 in Jimenez’s other series Part of Your World). But I’ve also not rated a lot of books like this very high (4 stars or above).

That being said, I’m still looking out for cutesy contemporary reads recommendations and will probably read them for a while yet, so if you’ve got any recommendations, drop them in a comment.
