One Night on the Island by Josie Silver

More like Several Months on the Island?

Either way, I like what Josie Silver is doing with the titles of her novels.

I’ve previously read and reviewed One Day in December (in Macedonian) so I was intrigued when I saw a new book set on a remote Irish island.

I couldn’t immediately get into the story, the events taking Cleo to the island sound not to be very believabale….it was all too easy almost. The flamingo story was cute though.

Mac and Cleo seem an unlikely couple, the chemistry wasn’t quite there. I couldn’t bring myself to cheer them on. However, the inhabitants of the island and their activities, how much they care for and support each other was amazing. I loved the knitting group, the tight-knit community.

Whilst the idea is pretty good, something about this story feels rushed. Yes, the island…the cottage…the grotto are atmospheric, but the main characters and who they are is not quite fleshed out. I do think this has potential, just needs some extra work or editing.

Have you read this novel? What did you think?
