My Unpopular Bookish Opinions

Click the image to be taken to the blog hosting Top Ten Tuesday

I’m doing the actual prompt today, whoop whoop! Here’s my list:

  1. People automatically assume I’ve read all the books I own;
  2. People assuming I’ve read a very obscure book they’ve once heard about;
  3. No, I cannot loan you that book for an undetermined amount of time;
  4. Having multiple copies of your favorite books is perfectly normal;
  5. Book reviews are for book readers, not authors;
  6. Just because I’m a reader does not mean I aspire be an author as well;
  7. I don’t understand the hype over some of the most hyped books (ahem Fourth Wing);
  8. I’m not a fan of BookTok;
  9. Trigger warnings should not be prominently displayed as they tend to spoil a lot;
  10. Every other book should not be turned into a book series / movie or TV show.

What are your unpopular bookish opinions?

    These are all valid points! I can’t stand BookTok! Thank you for mentioning it! Absolutely, yes, for the reviews, in the past, I had a couple of bad experiences with authors due to negative reviews I left. Mind you, not even once being offensive or mean, I was merely expressing my opinions on the material, lol. I do agree about the triggers, although I personally cannot read anything that involves harming children/animals in a very bad way. I’d rather be warned beforehand, but for this, there are specific websites that I tend to consult, such as Does the Dog Die and another one for the TW. Same with the overhyped books, although I ended up loving Fourth Wing, I will not read some of the most popular ones especially series.

    I’m not into BookTok either.

  3. I don’t have a TikTok account, so no BookTok for me. I also think Trigger Warnings can be big spoilers. Here’s my TTT: https://bonniereadsandwrites.com/2025/04/15/top-ten-tuesday-my-unpopular-bookish-opinions/comment-page-1/#comment-10588

  4. Yes to number 3! Just because I like books doesn’t mean I’m a library – I’m quite attached to my books 😀

  5. Cathy Johnson says:

    Yes to number one.

  6. Joanne @ Portobello Book Blog says:

    I couldn’t think of many opinions I thought would be unpopular until I read everyone’s lists this week and found myself nodding along!

  7. Yes to number 1 for sure

  8. Rissi JC says:

    I spy lots I agree with! We don’t need an adaptation of every book and bookstagram (I haven’t ever had TikTok) started annoying me a long time ago. 😉 Maybe someday the fun will return to the book life of social media! 🙂

  9. I agree about BookTok! I won’t go on it and also about trigger warnings.

  10. I agree that not every book needs to be adapted. Several have been adapted that maybe should not have been. As for the hype, I get that. My post today is about books that have received a lot of hype that I don’t understand.

    Yay to #5, #6, #8, #9 and partially #10. I’m glad to see most of us bloggers dislike Booktok 🙂

  12. Athena says:

    Oh my God I agree with so many of these! I have the one about reviewers on mine, how are we supposed to make informed decisions about what we read if reviewers are just trying to make authors happy!!

  13. I love these! 😂 It doesn’t makes sense to me to have read every book I own either, and yes, I have multiple copies of the same books too. I also learned the hard way to not lend out my books unless I’m okay with not getting them back.

  14. I agree with a lot of your opinions! I also have not read anywhere near every book I own, people always ask me if I’ve read some random book and I stay away from Book Tok!

    I recently read a book that said “trigger warnings are displayed on page 405 if you need them” (right at the end) and I thought that was a good idea.

  15. Marwah @ The Booklore Fairy says:

    I agree that books that get a lot of hype aren’t always that good. I was disappointed after reading Shatter Me and The Daughter of the Pirate King, and both were gushed about by many readers 🙂

  16. Sometimes people are surprised that I’m a book reviewer because I haven’t read every book ever. It’s not possible to read everything!

  17. Oh my gosh, #2. The number of times people are surprised that I haven’t read a certain book is mind-blowing. Like do you know how many books exist? I read between 100-200 books a year, which is a small fraction of the number of books published each year. I hope you have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by my blog earlier.
