Today’s topic is about our anticipated releases for the rest of 2024, but I don’t have such a list this time. Therefore, I’m doing the mid-year book freak-out tag instead.

Best book you’ve read so far in 2024?

Definitely Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang – such a great standalone fantasy! If you love the genre, I highly recommend you check it out.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2024?

The Ink Black Heart (Cormoran Strike #6) by Robert Galbraith. For some reason I’d forgotten about these books, but I saw a post somewhere of the latest book in the series and realized 2 more books had come out. Book 6 is the longest in the series so far, but it’s also my favorite.

New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

Table for Two by Amor Towles. I did not know this was a thing and purchased a copy after spotting it on Instagram. I did not realize it’d be a short story collection though, so my enthusiasm has gone down a bit.

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

Wind and Truth (Stormilight Archive #5) by Brandon Sanderson even though I haven’t read book 4 yet.

 Biggest disappointment.

The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez. This was just not good. You can read my full review here.

Biggest surprise.

Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania by Erik Larson. I’ve made it my mission to read as many of his books as I can this year.

Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you).

Erik Larson again. I have read some other new to me authors this year, but they don’t stand out as much as Larson.

 Newest fictional crush.

Daniel Grant from Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez.

Newest favourite character.

Briana and Jacob from Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez with their complicated family histories and character traits.

Book that made you cry.

I remember reading something on my Kindle late at night that made shed a tear, but I cannot remember what book it was at the moment. I’ve scrolled through my Kindle and recent reads but I cannot recognize it.

Book that made you happy.

The Jade Setter of Janloon by Fonda Lee not because it is a happy story but because I was happy to be back in the world of Jade and Janloon.

Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received).

My clothbound copies of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Dublin by Edward Rutherfurd, In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson and A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon.

Have you read any of these? Leave your TTT post in the comments.

Hi Marianne! Dublin will probably be my next Rutherfurd read, I just need a little break after Sarum. Heading to your blog post now. Happy reading!
