Today’s topic is Bookish Memories. I’m going to show you 10 books I have an emotional attachment to.

Pirate Stew by Neil Gaiman – my first signed book from my favorite author

Heidi by Johanna Spyri – my favorite childhood classic and possibly my all time favorite book, the book that got me into reading. This is not my original copy as that’s been read so many times it’s practically falling apart;

The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien – a gift from my sister before my solo trip to the USA as a student, a great work & travel adventure I embarked on alone;

A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles – a gift from a significant gentleman in my life;

A Tragic Wreck by T.K. Leigh – I’m included in the acknowledgment section;

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak – the book I book with a gift card from the first giveaway I’ve ever won;

Сфинга на гневот од Жарко Кујунџиски – a book by a Macedonian author, part of my review for the book is features on the back cover;

La catedral del mar by Ildefonso Falcones – my first ever book in Spanish and a gift from there friends from Spain;

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón – gift from a cousin that got me back into reading whilst at university. It also sparked my interest in books about books;

The Almond Tree by Michelle Cohen Corasanti – first ever signed book that I won in a Goodreads giveaway.

  1. I just read PIRATE STEW this year and loved it. My grandson had a pirate-themed birthday party where my daughter read the story to the assembled kids. They didn’t get into it as much as she had hoped. They were more interested in BEING pirates at the moment.

    Books can become so much more when they’re meaningful gifts–I love that you’ve had that experience! Happy TTT 🙂

  4. I loved HEIDI as a kid, too. It’s been years and years since I read it. I think it’s time for a re-read!

    What a lovely photo. It’s always fun to see a book spread like that, but seeing all the special memories they spark made this post a joy to read. I love the symbolism of the Hobbit gift in particular.

    The Hobbit is certainly a special book! Thanks for visiting Long and Short Reviews!

  11. Heidi and The Hobbit are two big favorites for me, too!

    I’m especially taken, though, with seeing books on your list that are new to me.

  12. Heidi was one of my favorites when I was a kid too. 🙂

  13. Wow, we have so many books in common (though I couldn’t have read them in Russian):
    I have read Heidi, The Hobbit (but wouldn’t put that on my list of favourites), A Gentleman in Moscow, The Book Thief, La catedral del mar and The Shadow of the Wind. What a great selection.
