Ten Old Favorite Books I Want to Reread to Determine if they’re All Time Favorites

Today’s TTT topic is Books I Would Hand to Someone Who Claims to Not Like Reading, however, I decided to do my own thing and talk about ten old favorite books that I’d love to reread to determine if they’re all time favorites. I’m equal parts excited and scared of rereading this, what if they don’t hold up?

Here’s the list:

Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson

The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings #1) by J.R.R. Tolkien

The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle #1) by Patrick Rothfuss

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin

The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books #1) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Non-fiction by Neil Gaiman

The Island (The Island #1) by Victoria Hislop

The Little Breton Bistro by Nina George

The Stone Sky (The Broken Earth #3) by N.K. Jemisin

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

  1. I have read “The Shadow of the Wind”, “The Kite Runner” and “The Island”, all definitely worth another read.

My TTT has a lot of my favourite shorter books.

I’d be pretty scared to try this exercise…I’d be afraid that I’d ruin a book that I have such fond memories of!

    Happy TTT!

  3. Oooh, that’s brave. I have some favorite books that I don’t want to ever re-read just in case I don’t like them anymore, so I get your nervousness about it.

Great list. The Kite Runner is one of my favorites

  5. On the strength of the great books on your list that I have read, I am more keen on picking up those I haven’t! The Storied Life … is a great title!
This is my list of books I’d recommend to a non-reader!

  6. Great topic! I’ve definitely re-read favorite books years later only to wonder why I loved them so much. It’s a weird experience. I hope these all pass the test 🙂

    Happy TTT!

  8. Greg says:

I’m always afraid when I re- read something and worrying it won’t hold up. It would break my heart if I lost my love for Tolkien…

  9. I always say I am going to make time to reread…a nd then it never seems to happen. I need to change that!

  10. I don’t think I could reread The Kite Runner. That book was hard the first time through. Good, but hard.

  11. I’ve read a few of these, and the one I’d most want to read again to see if I’d still love it is A J Fikry. I do intend to do a LOTR reread at some point, maybe with audiobooks. This is a great list!

  12. I’ve only read The Kite Runner from this list, but it’s such an amazing book even if I’m not quite sure I could manage a reread of it. I’ve got quite a few of these on my TBR though!

  13. I loved AJ Ferky and read another book by Khaled Hosseini. I’m a lifelong Tolkien failure–though I have read a lot about him.

  14. Gabriel says:

The Broken Earth trilogy absolutely wrecked me. It was amazing, and got me hooked on Jemisin. Great list!

  15. I’ve only read The Lord of the Rings from this list, but I did read The Fifth Season and loved it, just haven’t gotten around to reading the rest of the trilogy yet.

  16. Great list! I’ve only read LOTR and hope to reread soon, but Sanderson and Rothfuss are both on my TBR.

  17. I don’t re-read nearly as much as I’d like to but I always wonder how I’d feel about some books I loved years ago if I were to re-read them now.

  18. One of these days I’d love to reread The Lord of the Rings – it’s been way too long.

  19. I always wanted to try The Shadow of the Wind. Hope these live up upon a second reading!

  20. Vero says:

ahh beautiful list, we share some favorites. like Sanderson, LOTR and Shadow of the Wind. Hope you still love them

  21. Sometimes I think about re-reading (I don’t because I have so many books I’ve never read once) but then I also have this feeling that I like to have my good memories and just in case a re-read wouldn’t result well, I kind of want to leave that alone. 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland on this week.
