Top Ten Audiobook Recommendations

This week I’m again doing my own topic, specifically listing the top ten audiobooks I’ve listened to. I’m very picky about my audiobooks and have been getting more into them recently.

Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones, narrated by Kristin Atherton – fantastic book and narration overall

What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami, narrated by Ray Porter – my favorite non-fiction audiobook, I find the story so inspiring, and the narration pairs perfectly with it

Seriously…I’m Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres, narrated by Ellen DeGeneres – one I listened to years ago, I’ve since stopped following Ellen by her narration was hilarious and left a lasting impression it seems. I mean, her tips on becoming a billionaire here were precious: Write a series of books about magical, vampire, teenage hobbits. Turn it into a movie franchise!

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, narrated by Anthony Jackson, Paul Daneman, John Justin, Heron Carvic, Wolfe Morris – the audiobook was the perfect way for me to reread this

A Boy Called Christmas by Matt Haig, narrated by Stephen Fry – Stephen Fry is hands down my favorite audiobook narrator. Other than Neil Gaiman that is.

Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend, narrated by Gemma Whelan – a fantastic middle-grade audiobooks

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke, narrated by Chiwetel Ejiofor – the book itself is hard to describe, but I can promise the audiobook is amazing

The Sandman Audible Original by Neil Gaiman and Dirk Maggs, narrated by Neil Gaiman, Riz Ahmed, Kat Dennings, Taron Egerton, James McAvoy, Samantha Morton, Bebe Neuwirth – this could’ve been any book Gaiman narrates, but I’ve opted to include The Sandman as the most recent one I’ve read. This is one of the best audiobook productions ever, and here I’m referring not to the narration, but the whole package from music to sound effects, etc.

The Ickabog by J.K. Rowling, narrated by Stephen Fry – as I said above, Fry is my favorite audiobook narrator

Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr, narrated by Marin Ireland and Simon Jones – my favorite book of 2021 so far, both story and narration are 5+

  7. Great list! I finished listening to Nevermoor and haven’t been able to stop raving about how well the audiobook was narrated! I actually haven’t been as willing to read the book version, and have been waiting to get my hands on the audiobook version of the next book just because the audiobook was done so well. I’m going to have to check out some more of the books on this list!
