Home by Penny Parkes
Home was recently the recommended audiobook on Scribd, it was relatively short and I decided to give it a try. Plus, this cute cover helped a lot too.
The main character is Anna, who’s grown in foster care, proceeded to study in Oxford and became a housesitter. Now, house sitting sounds like a fascinating concept. It’s not something that exist where I’m from but we’ve all seen The Holiday movie.
Eventually, all the houses become a little much for our hero Anna, who grew up in foster care, and is coming to appreciate the thought of a place to call her own home and have a permanent address. The fact that she sees an accident and cannot be a witness drives the point home for her.
She misses her parents and questions what happened, but also makes some very good friends that kind of turn into her own little family.
The writing style is not my favorite, but I was really interested to know if Anna will come to call a place home. There was scenes in there that I didn’t quite care for, but overall this was an okay read. I appreciate the idea, but the execution has me rounding this up to a 3 star read.
