Mid Year Book Freakout Tag 2021

It’s June meaning it’s time for my favorite bookish tag: The Mid Year Book Freakout Tag!

Original tag: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_Wh0…

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2021

The Trials of Morrigan Crow (Nevermoor #1) by Jessica Townsend and I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith. These were both pleasant surprises for different reasons. Nevermoor gives Harry Potter vibes and makes my heart happy whilst Dodie’s characters and their humor were a lovely little gem.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2021

The Viscount Who Loved Me (Bridgertons #2) by Julia Quinn – I breezed past the TV show and books in turn in just over a week, book 2 being my favorite by far.

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir – I plan on listening to this soon, hope it lives up to my expectations.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr and The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles – both author of some of my all time favorite titles.

5. Biggest disappointment.

The Crown of Gilded Bones by Jennifer L. Armentrout – that went downhill fast.

6. Biggest surprise.

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke – I’m yet to decide what to read this, but very surprised I liked it considering Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell took me a very long time to read.

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

Talia Hibbert, I adore The Brown Sisters series and plan on reading more of Hibbert’s books.

8. Newest fictional crush.

The Darkling from the Grishaverse. The handsome actor from the Netflix adaptation might be messing with my mind here 😀

9. Newest favourite character.

Shae Kaul from The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee – she’s beautiful, smart and kicks some a$$.

10. Book that made you cry.

I’m not a crier really but this book by a Macedonian author got me real close: Денот кога не се разбудив.

11. Book that made you happy.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien – I decided to reread this and let me tell you, it may be one of my best reading decisions ever!

12. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

The Puffin in Bloom Collection, I’m now the proud owner of all 4 books.

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

There literally so many! For starters, I want to reduce my owned TBR substantially, Malice by John Gwynne, Half a King by Joe Abercrombie and Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami to name a few.

14. Favourite Book Community Member

Definitely Jadeyraereads on Youtube, at one point I was almost exclusively reading during her reading sprints and her intense Patreon ones are some of my very faves. I’m also exploring middle grade books thanks to her recommendations.
