Books On My Summer 2021 TBR

Today’s topic is our summer TBR. Whilst I did say in a previous post that I will no longer be sharing TBRs, I’ll make an exception today seeing as I do have some idea as to what I want to read in the next few months. I may not get to all of this as my reading mood changes, but here’s what the TBR looks like today:

Books on my physical TBR as seen on the photo, from left to right:

The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry – not going to lie, got this because I love the cover!

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova – this will be my next historical fiction

Tales of Long Ago by Arthur Conan Doyle – currently reading

Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder – have already read it and was not a big fan

Malice by John Gwynne – currently reading

Half a King by Joe Abercrombie – to satisfy my fantasy cravings

Куќа над брановите од Билјана Црвенковска – available in Macedonain only

Суво Мастило од Владимир Илиевски – available in Macedonian only

American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins – the Macedonian edition

The Dutch House by Ann Patchett – the Macedonian edition

Америка од Жарко Кујунџиски – available in Macedonian only

Последниот слон воин од Шен Шиси – Chinese children’s stories, the Macedonian edition on the image

A good mix of genres if I say so myself.

Some additional titles that I don’t own yet or have as ebooks:

Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro – currently reading

The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman– have read a couple of pages, seems promising so will read more.

The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin – might just order the paperback cause I own paperbacks of her other books

So, there you have it…more than 10 books but all titles I’d love to get to this summer. You can check out my mid year book freakout tag here.

Leave your TTT in the comments below. Happy reading!

  1. You have a great mix of books here! I wish I could read Macedonian to see all the books – curiosity is killing me! The only book of these I have read is Little House in the Big Woods. I remember liking elements of it, but then again I never read any further in the series, so it wasn’t my favourite either. I read half of The Essex Serpent and loved it – I only put it down because things were happening in my life and by the time I went back to reading, I’d lost track of the plot. I’ll read it again at some point. I’ve also read part of The Historian – I enjoyed elements of it, but found it quite dense and felt like it was taking a looooong time to get going! Will be interesting to see what you think! I hope you enjoy your summer reading!

I wish more Macedonian titles were available in other languages, but not the case so far. Little House has not aged well in my opinion. I’m now looking even more forward to reading The Essex Serpent and The Historian. Thank you ever so much for visiting!

      • I wish every culture’s books could be translated for everyone somehow – I feel like we miss out on so much we could learn about people in different parts of the world. And it is such a rich thing to learn about other cultures (mind you I’m biased since I studied Anthropology, but still!). I love that you share what you’re reading in Macedonian, even if we can’t all understand it. I love seeing what people who can read in multiple languages are reading! I think there’s a tendency in the English-speaking online book world to forget about all the other languages that are being read, because they’re not discussed as much. So thank you for sharing!

  2. Great list! At some point I really need to give The Historian a try, I’ve owned my copy for aaaages. Happy reading!

  3. Oh you have an Ishiguro also! That’s awesome. I hope this summer will bring some of your best reads.

  4. Some interesting books on that list. I have read “The Historian”, “The Dutch House” and all the Laura Ingalls Wilder books.

And I know exactly what you mean with the Macedonian titles. German books are more often translated, even Dutch ones, but often not into English.

    Enjoy your reads.

Thanks for visiting my TTT earlier.

  7. I remember reading the Laura Ingalls Wilder books as a child. I hope you enjoy all of these!

  8. I agree with Little House in the Big Woods. I put it aside because it was not like the books I remembered as a kid.

  9. Listen to Dutch House on audio if you can! Tom Hanks is great!

  10. Looks like a great mix of books, hope you’ll enjoy all of these!

  12. What a great list! I always wished I could read books in more than one language – this is something I’m going to have to work on. You’ve got a bunch of books that I really need to bump up on my TBR. Happy reading!

  13. Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder was one of my favourites as a little girl. I haven’t reread it, though. ..

It’d be interested to see whether it holds up for someone that’s read it in their childhood. Thanks for visiting Lectrice!

  14. There are so many great books on here. I’m such a huge mood reader and never stick to my TBR’s. I hope you get to Malice! I haven’t read it yet but have heard so many great things.

Looks like some good fantasy stuff in there. 🙂

  18. I’ve been putting off the Essex Serpent, but the cast for the TV series looks so good, I’m going to have to try it!

I haven’t read any of these! I’ll definitely be adding a couple to my TBR! Great list!
