Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

The book follows quite a few adult couples with children at different ages and single parents with issues. You see the points of view of several of them and what’s going on in their daily lives in the seemingly perfect Pirriwee Peninsula, Australia.

Guess what? Nothing’s actually perfect!

Following the POV of Madelaine, Celeste and Jane (btw these names go perfectly with their characters!), we get temporary snippets from the lives of 5-year-olds and parents of children going to the same school giving a statement. The whole time you’re wondering what’s with these random breaks in the narrative? In the end it makes such perfect sense and it was foreshadowed so masterfully that you start wondering how you didn’t see it coming. It’s all one big little lie in the end ;)))

There’s witty banter, there’s lots of adults realizing very obvious things have been happening right in front of their face, yet they didn’t see it coming, worrying about little things and not seeing the big picture. Makes you wonder, but also nod your head, cause doesn’t this happen to everyone sometimes?

Starts powerfully and ends even more so. The very last sentence…rarely does a story have a conclusion I love so much.

Gonna read more books by Liane Moriarty. In the meantime, I’d like to urge all of you to read this book.
Over and out.

Mini series was quite a bit different, but overall OK, especially the cast of characters. After watching the adaptation and thinking on it some more, I decided this is not the best book or story ever but still one of my favorite books read in 2017.

Have you read this book?
