Ten Books About Books | Book Recommendations

Today’s topic is a freebie so I’m going all out with a list of 10 books about books and book lovers! There’s a lot more that I’ve read, but these are books I own physical copies of.

If on a Winter’s Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino – reading this was quite the journey, from utter confusion to realizing how brilliant it is and planning when to reread it. One for the TBR if it’s not there already!

Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan – a peculiar bookstore where no one seems to buy anything. I wonder what mystery it’s hiding? Bet you want to find out. And you totally should.

The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett – short, funny and sweet story about the Queen falling in love with reading.

The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George – a literary apothecary, you say? Sign me up! ….did you sign up yet? A book about Monsieur Perdu who from his floating bookstore in a barge on the Seine, he prescribes novels for the hardships of life.

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón – a bookshop in Barcelona, a mysterious author and his disappearing books, the cemetery of forgotten books. A classic as far as I’m concerned really, everyone needs to read this.

Confessions by Jaume Cabré – did you see the spine? The same image is on the cover too. Need I say more? Spans generations and it’s absolutely brilliant.

Rules of Civility by Amor Towles – with a main character who loves classics and has books everywhere, making good observations and witty dialogue about the philosophers needing less sun etc, this was my first 5 star read of 2021 and definitely one to remember!

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak – Liesel saves books from the fires in Nazi Germany, one where Death is a narrator and one that’ll definitely make you cry.

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin – if this boosktore really existing, it’d definitely be on my list to visit.

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield – the writing of the biography of author Vida Winter and her missing thirteenth tale.

Have you read any of these? Got any recommendations for me based on this list?
