Five Fantasy/Sci-Fi Books on my Autumn TBR

Today’s topic is books on out autumn TBR. I’m in a fantasy/sci-fi reading mood and these are big books, so I’ve included 5 I know for sure I want to read. Check out linked TBRs at the bottom of the post for books I want to read by the end of the year.

The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan – I saw somewhere that this series bridges the gap between Tolkien and Sanderson, so this helps ease my apprehension about staring a 14 book series…somewhat. Fingers crossed that I’ll love this.

Dune by Frank Herbert – have to read this before I watch the movie. I expect this will make an appearance on other people’s lists as well.

A Time of Dread by John Gwynne – on a mission to read all of Gwynne’s books after reading and loving The Faithful and the Fallen this summer. Luckily all the books in the Of Blood and Bone trilogy are already published, so I can read those whilst patiently waiting for him to write more books.

The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang – only hearing good things about this. You can bet I’m curious about it. I’m planning on this being my next ebook.

The Fires of Vengeance by Evan Winter – wasn’t a big fan of book one (it didn’t deliver enough dragons, okay?) but figured one more book is worth the shot, I’ll see if I want to commit to the rest of the series after reading it.

A list of more books I want to read by the end of 2021 can be found here, but as I said I’m currently in a fantasy mood so not sure how many I’ll get to.

Also, check out my review of It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey.

  3. I want to read Dune because of the adaptation! My friend Autumn is currently reading through Wheel of Time and she told me she wasn’t sure I would like it LOL! I also really want to get to Sword of Kaigen but I am slightly intimidated by it. Happy reading 🙂

  4. I’ve heard such good things about The Sword of Kaigen!

Some good choices here. I keep meaning to read a Gwynne book but am hesitant. And I remember enjoying DUNE, but it is heavy going.

I’ve heard all of these books but I don’t want to read them. There was once I was fascinated with Dune and might have read the book but now I don’t want to.

Thanks for visiting my blog. Have a lovely day.

  8. Dune! Yes, I need to re-read it soon! Enjoy!

  9. I want to read Dune as well, especially after watching the trailer for the upcoming movie! And if I had the time, I’d love to re-read The Wheel of Time. Happy reading!

  10. I read Dune ages ago, but I’ve been wanting to reread it before the movie comes out. And now I realize that my time is running out! I’m glad I saw it on your list — I’d better get started!

  11. I’m tempted to try Dune before the film too, but it’s awfully intimating!

I’ve not read any of these, but the covers are intense! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  13. Hopefully we both make it through The Eye of the World. I’m also apprehensive about starting such a large series because I always have so many other things to read but I’ve always wanted to try it so it feels like a good time.

  14. A great list! I hope you enjoy reading them all.

  15. It looks like you have some great books coming up! I hope you enjoy them!

I’m excited to read and see the film adaptation of Dune. I’ve been trying to read Evan Winters’ books for a year now, but I always lose my footing in the world Winters created.

BTW It’s so nice to see someone else feature Christelle Dabos’ series. It’s rare I see them one the Bookternet and they’re one of my favorite fantasy series of all time. I’d love if you check out my review of Dabos’ books one my blog.

I find Winters world not too complicated overall but completely underwhelmed by the characters and the lack of the dragons. Book one failed to deliver but I’m willing to give one more chance for some reason.

And I’m kind of struggling through The Memory of Babel to be honest, book 1 was by far the best and I do seem to lose interest as they go on. I do want the books for the pretty covers at least though. I’ll check out your review, thanks for visiting Adira!

  18. Greg says:

I love that cover of Dune and yes with the movie coming- great choice!

  19. Ooh, I’ve been wanting to read The Sword of Kaigen too! I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. Dune is also on my TBR and I feel like I want to read it soon but it also really intimidates me 😂 I hope you manage to read these books and enjoy them, too! Happy reading 🙂

  20. Well, I’m not a fantasy or Sci-Fi fan in general, but I hope you enjoy these!

  21. Great list! The Sword of Kaigen is SO good. I hope you enjoy it!

  22. Evelyn says:

I love The Eye of the World and Dune! I need to read the others!

  23. Fall definitely feels like the time for some heavier fantasy reads.

  24. I’d love to read Dune before watching the movie too! Hope you’ll enjoy all of these!

  25. Marie says:

Fires of Vengence was so good. I read it a couple of months ago. I have Sword of Kaigan on my kindle, I just haven’t gotten to it yet. I should get that one read too, but I’m trying to focus on the physical books I own for my fall reading.

  26. I really enjoyed The Eye of the World! I’ve made it to book three of WoT thus far, and I can tell it’s going to take a while to get through the series, haha. It feels super nostalgic to me, very classic fantasy. A Time of Dread is great, I hope you enjoy it! And I’ve been really wanting to check out The Sword of Kaigen as well.

  27. Hope you enjoy these. I enjoyed A Time of Dread, it’s a series I’d like to carry on with.
Every time I see the trailer for the Dune movie I keep thinking ‘should I give the book a try?’ 😀

  28. Jaime says:

I read Dune last year when I thought the movie was coming out… I think I’m going to like the movie more than the book with this one XD

  29. kay says:

Hope we both enjoy Dune and The Eye of the World! Happy reading!

  30. Great list. I want to read The Eye of the World because Sanderson finished the series, but is so long, i will try to read the first book before the tv series

  31. Hope you enjoy all of these, Stefani. I’m not a fantasy or sci-fi reader, but do enjoy a fun sci-fi movie now and again, and depending on the type of fantasy, it seems a great kind of autumn read! 🙂 Happy reading and thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland this week.
